I took this derive at night with my girlfriend, and it took just under 40
minutes. We started at the corner of Bedford Ave and Kosciuszko St and our
first rule was to walk in the direction of the brightest lights. This led
us down the major avenue where many of the restaurants and bars
illuminated the sidewalk. After turning west onto Quincy St, we decided to
introduce a new rule to take us somewhere less familiar: whenever we
reached an intersection, we would cross in whichever direction that was
green. However, after turning onto Franklin Ave, my nose started to bleed
and we had to head back towards Bedford to find a place to rest and clean
up. After this detour, we resumed with the rules, which took us all the
way to Fulton St. Walking without intention really made us slow down from
our usual city walking pace. In doing so, we spent more time paying
attention to the architecture of the houses around us and the silhouettes
of people in their illuminated windows. It also took us down streets that
we rarely encounter, even though they’re so close to the places we
frequent.
